We’re just two ghostly lovers + a couple of cameras. Most of our inspiration comes from the past.
oN US
We’re Emma + James, alternative self-taught photographers, art connoisseurs, botany lovers, + world-building storytellers. We constantly give each other ideas, learning, teaching, + bouncing thoughts off one another.
Emma has a Bachelor of Fine arts in both Design + Illustration, while James holds his in animation + 3D Modeling. We both have our Associates in Art in Behavioral + Social Science. While this isn’t essential to understanding photography, it has engrained the arts in the way we think, what we do, + how we shape our craft. We are big on composition + establishing mood over the idea of capturing the ‘perfect’ or ‘correct’ photo. This approach, mixed with our arts + psychology education has introduced us to our favorite classical eras, the people before us that built + contributed to it, + how we, as a society, still rethink + reshape the past times. Through this, we’ve gained a deep gratitude + understanding of the importance of culture, the finer things within the mundane, + the magick + intimacy that surrounds us.
Most of our inspiration comes from the world around us, reimagined in our subconscious & visualized for you to see.
Between the two of us, we have three Bachelors of Fine Arts degrees. While this isn’t essential to understanding photo, it has engrained the arts in the way we think, what we do, and how we shape our craft. Not only did our arts education introduce us to some of our favorite classical eras, it has also given us a deep love & appreciation of culture, the finer things hidden within the mundane, & the magick & intimacy that’s always all around us.
We’re lovers of Greek & Roman sculpture & architecture, High Renaissance paintings, the humanism of the Arts & Crafts Movement, the geometry of Art Deco, the fluidity of Art Nouveau, the celestial exploration of the Space-Age, the functionality of the Mid-Century Modern era, the organic psychedelia of the 70s, the boldness of traditional tattoo culture. All of these influences push & pull together to create the art we photograph.
Through this blend of art inspiration & our fascination with the cinematic, otherworldly essence of liminal space, we’ve crafted ‘HALF PAST’, alluding to bygone eras & time that exist only in the moment.
